What role does artificial intelligence play in fabric quality control?

Visual defect detection, laboratory testing, and expert judgment each play a distinct role in fabric evaluation.

This article was prepared for a trial display of the journal and is not a published or reviewed article by the Technical Unit.

Focus on Visible Defects
The Newtex Intelligent Inspection System is used to monitor the fabric surface and detect and record visible defects. The system data helps the quality control team review the location and type of defect and have a reviewable history.

AI does not replace laboratory testing
The scope of this system is visible surface defects. Chemical properties, color fastness, tensile strength, grammage and dimensional changes require relevant testing. The list of tests that can be performed does not mean that all tests can be performed on all products.

The final decision lies with the QC specialist
The output of the intelligent system is one of the inputs to the decision-making process. The QC team sees the inspection evidence alongside the laboratory results and production records. The grade is recorded at the same warehouse level and should not be generalized to all productions of a product name.

Read the report by scope and date
The report that can be presented should specify what was inspected, what the result and unit were, and which product or warehouse the inspection was related to and on what date. Actual yarn, supplier, and manufacturing formula information is confidential; to request a report on the scope of declarable information, please use the contact page.
