Grammage is the weight of a square meter of fabric
Gramage is expressed in GSM or grams per square meter. This number indicates the weight per unit area of the fabric and is one of the specifications that is read when comparing products along with the weave type, width, thickness and percentage composition of fibers. Grammage alone is not a complete description of the behavior or quality of the fabric.
What does the ± symbol mean?
In the registered specifications of Newtex products, grammage is included with a tolerance. For example, 285±15 GSM means a nominal value of 285 and a registered tolerance of 15 grams per square meter. Do not consider this specification to be the same as the measurement result of a specific sample or swatch; the test result must be related to the same sample, method and date.
A heavier fabric is not necessarily a better choice
Production needs, the garment model and the characteristics expected from the sample are important in the selection. A higher weight alone does not indicate a higher quality or better grade. Two products with similar grammage may have different weave types, thicknesses or elasticity.
How to compare?
Select two to four fabrics in the comparison section and see the grammage alongside the width, m/kg, thickness, and transverse and longitudinal stretch. Then check the sample of the same code and share your expectations of the fabric with the sales team.
